The goal for this project was to visually represent the main theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream across a number of promotional materials. I explored the differences between dreaming and reality, as the play questions the authenticity of both places and people.
I created a circular composition for the posters and playbills in order to create the illusion of time passing; the characters have different lines of sight, as they experience the same reality through different perspectives. In addition, the stars represent the romanticism of reality, while the various shadows and highlights elude to characters having more to them than their initial appearances reveal. I explored further juxtaposition through silly expressions and bright colors in contrast to the dark background.
Each ticket features a single character in order to illustrate the idea that every character has their own understanding of the events that will unfold; this will engage the audience with the idea of different perspectives, even before the play has begun.
